ATTENDANCE INFO
March 15, 2010

Hello internet buddies!

Ok, here's the situation... My parents went away on a week's vacation...

Here are the details about attending/getting an HXDX wristband (These are not SXSW wristbands. These wristbands are specific to our show only):

1. Line up whenever you like at Whole Foods. The line will be on the plaza/stairs (you'll see signs). We really can't urge you enough to make sure you're there with plenty of time to spare. We want to have as many people as possible come to the show, but capacity is limited & it's a free show. Just sayin'...

2. At 6pm we will issue HXDX wristbands for the FIRST SHOW to everyone in line based on a first-come, first-served basis.

3. Doors open at 7 pm. Must have an HXDX wristband to enter.

4. If, at 7:15 pm, we are not at capacity, we will issue more wristbands to the people in line for the first show.

5. 7:30 pm -- first show begins. No more first show wristbands given out.

6. As soon as the first show starts, we will issue wristbands for the SECOND SHOW to the people in line.

7. 9:00 pm -- doors open for the second show.

8. If, at 9:15 pm, we are not at capacity, we will issue more wristbands to the people in line for the second show.

Random things:

a) Once you receive your wristband, you are free to do whatever you want -- get coffee, get a drink, buy a dog, whatever. You won't have to wait in line any longer. There will be an entrance to the tent that is separate from the line to get wristbands.

b) Only ONE wristband will be issued per person.

c) Even if you don't end up making it in, you will still be able to hear everything from outside the tent (it's a tent!).

d) This show is not affiliated with SXSW, so SXSW wristbands and badges will not be accepted. You must get an HXDX wristband to attend.

e) The show is totally FREE and ALL AGES!

f) We encourage you to walk around the tent during the show! Things will sound totally different depending on where you are standing!

We are really, really doing our best to be as fair as possible in regards to folks getting in. We want more than anything for a million people to come to the show, but unfortunately have to abide by capacity restrictions. We'll be posting more info as it comes in. Thanks for being so radical!

ONE WEEK!
March 12, 2010

Hey folks!!

The show is one week away and we're going out of our minds with excitement! We've been practicing/working on videos pretty much non-stop lately. We did a little sound test on the roof of Whole Foods a couple of nights ago, and were incredibly pleased with the results -- kind of mind-blowing to actually hear all the sounds in a huge space. We can't wait for the actual show! All forecasts are pointing to fantastic weather, so that makes things all the more awesome.

We'll be posting info about where/when to line up for the shows soon. We have separate wristbands for each show, and are trying to figure out the fairest way to get folks in. Capacity is pretty limited, and we can't urge you enough to plan accordingly. We're doing our best to make the show as open as we possibly can! Speaking of which... Due to unforeseen engineering issues with setting up a circus tent in a parking lot, as well as in an attempt to maximize capacity, we've decided to go with a larger tent. It's a one way ticket to crazy town!

TENTS!
March 4, 2010

Exciting update!!

The kind folks at Whole Foods have agreed to let us move the show from the upstairs plaza to the front parking lot AND it's now going to be held under a huge, crazy tent designed by Art Seen Alliance!! The projections will be shown on the roof of the tent, which will be visible from both inside and outside of the tent. Things just got a million times more awesome!

Music and videos are coming along supremely well! We can't wait to show you guys! This whole thing is gonna be intense!

Thanks a million times over to Danielle at Big Green House, Michael at Whole Foods, Dallas & Warren at Art Seen Alliance, Damon at Nomad Sound, Bryan Richie, all of our sponsors, and of course the fantastic and amazing Wiley Wiggins for making this whole thing a reality. Everybody has been working around the clock and we immensely appreciate all of their hard work!

HEXADECAGON
February 19, 2010

Hi everybody!

We're tremendously excited to announce the project we're knee-deep in creating right now...

As you may have guessed from the title of this web page, it's called HEXADECAGON. That's the geometrical term for a sixteen-sided object, and we chose it because the show we're working on is being written for an eight-channel sound and eight-channel video system: a sixteen-sided audiovisual panorama!

The eight speakers will be set up in a circle surrounding the audience, who will in turn be surrounding us (the band), set up in the middle of the whole shebang with eight images projected overhead. With this setup in mind, we can send all or part of the music spinning around in a circle or jumping from point to point across the space, or put completely different elements in each speaker, putting you and us in the middle of a crazy array of sounds. Add to that the video, which can run in tight synchronization with the sounds (following them around the circle) or behave completely differently, and the possibilities are endless! We're having a blast inventing these songs, building the electronics (the Bend Matrix from 4MS Pedals pictured above) / working with the software (Ableton Live, VDMX, OSCulator) we need to make this happen, and shooting the video (our pal Wiley Wiggins is running the video department - thanks, Wiley!).

And maybe the best part is that the show will be FREE! We're doing two performances on Friday, March 19 on the rooftop plaza of Whole Foods at 6th & Lamar. This is during SXSW, but you won't need a badge or wristband or anything, and it will definitely be all ages. Capacity is very limited though (around 600), and admittance will be on a first-come, first-served basis, so we urge you to make plans accordingly. We'll post more info on times and things you might need to know to attend as details develop. Watch this space!

There aren't enough synonyms for 'excited' to describe how enthused, ecstatic and generally psyched we are to share this with you - hope it sounds like a good time to all y'all and that you can make plans to party with us!

Love,
The Octopus Project
