Surprise! We have a new covers EP called 'I Want Vikram'!! This record features three tunes — “Vikram Vikram,” “I Want Candy,” and “Khala My Friend.” We love these songs so much and are super stoked to share them with you!
“Vikram Vikram,” composed by Ilaiyaraaja for the 1986 Tamil film Vikram, is an all-stops-out electro-disco-Kollywood jam that involved trying a few new things on our part. Perhaps you will see what we mean. Our version of “I Want Candy” (best known as a Bow Wow Wow tune, though that itself was a cover!) was first released on a KUTX compilation a few years back & is now widely available for the first time here. “Khala My Friend” is our tender take on a 1975 song by some nice artistes in Zambia, Amanaz. We hope you enjoy the tunes.

MOOG ETHERWAVE PERFORMANCE

Y’all!! Moog just released a brand new Etherwave Theremin & we are extremely honored to celebrate its launch by premiering a re-imagined version our 2007 tune, I Saw the Bright Shinies, shot at the Moog Sound Lab on all Moog gear!! Check out the video above!
In the performance, the Etherwave Theremin takes center stage as both lead instrument and CV controller for the Moog Matriarch paraphonic semi-modular analog synth (as a creative way to play its filter).
A million thanks to Jason Daniello, Spencer Kelly, Kenny Harrington, Max Ravitz & the whole Moog/Sound Lab family. We got to spend a dream-come-true few days at the Moog factory in Asheville, NC filming the video & we couldn’t be more excited to share it with you!!
For those whom it may interest, a gear rundown:
We used 16 Moog pieces of gear in total! Yvonne is playing the melody on the new Etherwave Theremin, with harmonies from Spencer on a Moog One and Toto on a vintage Rogue. Josh plays a rhythm part and chorus swells on a Matriarch. Main synth sequence consists of one monophonic line cycling through 5x Mother 32s, beats come from 3x DFAM, sub bass from an additional Mother 32. Chords in the chorus are running on an independent synth within Spencer’s Moog One, and the call-and-response on the chorus is between Yvonne’s Etherwave and an additional Matriarch which Toto is modulating with his own theremin acting as a CV controller. 100% Moog sound sources, MIDI programming done in Ableton Live, reactive visuals made with TouchDesigner.

Like many of you, we grew up watching the show. It shaped our childhoods & fostered a love of reading that we all share today. Not to mention, LeVar Burton is pretty much the greatest dude around! We couldn’t be more proud to be a part of such a special project.
The film is directed by Bradford Thomason & Brett Whitcomb, produced by Bryan Storkel and comes from studio XTR. The soundtrack will be available from Earth Libraries!

We are extremely excited to announce a coffee collaboration we're doing with the fine folks at Try Hard Coffee: Music Is Happiness.
The coffee is a single origin Ethiopia with notes of peach, cherry blossom, and sugar cane. Y'all, it's absolutely amazing!! It tastes like summer!
Join us for an online performance and workshop benefiting our pals at the Central Texas Mycological Society. Over the past year, we’ve been collecting biodata from various mushrooms via a MIDI Biodata Sonification Device that turns fungi data into MIDI information, which is then used to make music and control visuals. At the concert, we’ll be facilitating a live mushroom audio/visual performance featuring occasional human accompaniment. Various mushrooms will be providing the source material in real time — creating an ambient and meditative experience.
After the performance, we’ll be conducting an additional workshop to discuss and answer questions about the process of creating this fungi-driven project.

On 12/24/1999 (20 YEARS AGO!!!!!), we released our first foray into the world — a hand burned CDR entitled ‘Christmas On Mars.’ We wrote & recorded the tunes on a Tascam 8-track cassette recorder over the course of about a week, handed the CDRs out to friends & family for Xmas, and never looked back!!! A few of the tunes ended up on our first record, and the others have never been released elsewhere. Check out a baby OP below!

Extremely excited to share LOOM II — an immersive, ambient surround sound & surround light performance/art installation. It’s in a giant warehouse in downtown Austin (1300 E. 5th St.), it's FREE & it’s gonna be nuts!!! We spent the last couple of months programming lights & audio movements, as well as welding frames & hand cutting hundreds of mirrors for three enormous pyramidal chandeliers that will be hanging above everyone. It looks pretty bonkers!!

Welcome to 2018 everyone!
As we enter a year that will finally bring us flying cars, robot butlers and a telepathy-based internet, the members of The Octopus Project were astonished to discover that it's been 11 years since the release of their third album and perennial fan-favorite Hello, Avalanche. As such, it felt appropriate to re-release the record in a deluxe 11th anniversary incarnation - newly remastered, visually redesigned, and pressed on two 180-gram LPs in a gatefold sleeve. That second LP contains 2009's Golden Beds EP (9th anniversary alert!) and a full side of 12 never-before-heard demos from that era, giving fans a look into an expanded Avalanche universe for the first time -- including a recording of the first ever "Truck" practice.

This event is intended as an experiment in creating an immersive visual and sonic environment and spontaneously composing music to fit that space - it's gonna be some trippy shit, bring a pillow or a blanket & come get in the zone with us!

It's the first release on our own record label (Robot High School) & we couldn't be more excited! Starts shipping today!
We are excited to announce that our score for Kumiko, The Treasure Hunter is officially available for pre-sale on iTunes (for $7.99!)! It's minimal, it's cold & we couldn't be more proud of it. We won the Special Jury Award at Sundance 2014 for this score (what??!).
It's perfect for listening to while driving through the desert, ice fishing on a frozen lake or taking your solo balloon trip around the world.
It will be available digitally on March 10th & on 180 gram white vinyl in a few months.

We're super psyched to share "Sharpteeth," the second single from Fever Forms. The single features two exclusive B-sides and is available digitally from iTunes and and eMusic, or get the limited edition fluorescent pink vinyl 7" from Peek-A-Boo Records.
The video finds a group of furred and feathered usurpers performing the tune in a world somewhere between Lawrence Welk and Enter the Void. Psychic misadventures ensue. Directed by the band, the video was shot at the Scottish Rite theater in Austin, TX and in its surrounding mystery jungles.

Hey folks!
Over the past couple of months, we've been super busy working on a new record. We'll be releasing it early next year, but in the meantime, we'll be touring the US in the fall. More details as they come in, but we can't wait to share the new tunes with you guys!

A new year is upon us and it's time for some new stuff!! We're playing two shows in Texas in February and are excited to try out some new tunes as well as an entirely new video setup (seen above). We figured out how to map video to our amps and are pretty jazzed with the results. See you at the shows!
